The “Portraits of Small Towns” are short documentary films (8 to 12 minutes) that aim to give national prominence to the projects developed in the small towns of the POPSU Territoires program. From the perspective of a local case study – a small town – they offer insights into the major public action questions faced by local officials and the dynamics that influence these areas: revitalization of town centers, territorial planning, future planning, aging, digitalization, economic development, and more. To achieve this, they combine perspectives from local officials, researchers, and local and national stakeholders. In this episode, we focus on Martel in the Dordogne Valley. The relative distance from the larger urban centers (first Brive, then Toulouse, Bordeaux, and Limoges), coupled with the rise of tourism, prompts local actors to consider the development model to prioritize and the accessibility of public services.
