The King of France, Louis XIV, is 28 years old. He wishes to subdue the French nobility to the authority of the royal power. To distance himself from Paris and the events of the Fronde that still haunt him, he decides to move his government to his father’s former hunting lodge. To attract the nobles to his court and keep them under control, he launches the construction of the most sumptuous of palaces: Versailles. This grand and costly enterprise will fuel discontent and discord.
